04/08/08 - Chesebro Joins Community Partners to Host Bike Safety Rally on May 10th
Chesebro Elementary School invites families from throughout the DeKalb area to come to the school on Saturday, May 10th for a Bike Safety Rally from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. The school is joining with two community partners for the event. The DeKalb Police Department will provide bike safety tips, and members of Christ Community Church will provide free bike "tune-ups". Chesebro Elementary School is located at 900 E. Garden St., DeKalb.
The May 10th Bike Safety Rally is the continuation of a successful partnership between the school and members of Christ Community Church. Earlier this month, a pancake breakfast was held at the school to help raise funds for the annual fifth grade trip to Atwood Forest Preserve and Environmental Center. The supplies and cooks for the pancake breakfast were provided by church members, while students prepared and distributed flyers announcing the event. While the breakfast was successful, members of the church provided additional matching funds to ensure the field trip would be able to continue.
"We are very thankful for the ongoing support of Chesebro School by members of Christ Community Church," said Sharon Giless, principal. "We look forward to their continued partnership with our learning community, in addition to the help by the DeKalb Police for the May 10th event. We hope everybody will consider joining us that day," she added.
