04/28/08 - Huntley Orchestra Takes Top Honors in State Contest
Under the direction of Amanda Nelson, the 7th/8th grade orchestra from Huntley Middle School competed in the Illinois Grade School Music Association Northern Division competition this past Saturday. They received a Division I ranking from the judges. This is the highest possible rating in the highest level they are able to compete. An as yet unconfirmed report indicates that one of the judges submitted a perfect score for the ensemble.
The IGSMA Northern Division covers approximately two-thirds of the geographical area of the state. Nearly 300 public and parochial schools are represented in this division. The Huntley orchestra ensemble received this superior rating in spite of the fact that they were competing against other groups that were as much as four times larger in terms of ensemble members.
The orchestra will present its spring concert at Boutell Hall (NIU) on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
