05/13/08 - Cortland Teacher Named 2008 Illinois Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year

The Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance has announced that William McGuire, Physical Education teacher at Cortland Elementary School, is the 2008 Illinois Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. He will now be one of six Teachers of the Year eligible to be considered for Midwest District AAHPERD Teacher of the Year. The Midwest District consists of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

"Bill McGuire has always worked hard for the benefit of our students", said Kim Lyle, principal of Cortland Elementary School. "He was very instrumental in Cortland Elementary being named as one of the few Illinois sites for a CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Children's Health) grant to help address the obesity problem by affecting children's attitudes and behaviors toward nutrition and physical activity. We appreciate his ongoing dedication to our students."
