DISTRICT 428 - IN THE NEWS

12/06/2007 - DeKalb High School Graduation Rate On The Rise: District 428 has announced that graduation rates of students at DeKalb High School have risen dramatically over the past four years, even as enrollment has grown and state/district graduation requirements have increased. District and high school administrators are pleased with the significant progress, and the gains have occurred across all student demographics.

“While we are excited about the overall increase in the percentage of students graduating, we are particularly thrilled that all our students are realizing this success,” said Lindsey Hall, DeKalb High School principal. “We have worked very hard to ensure that all students are doing well. This data is a testament, once again, to the hard work and dedication of staff and employees in partnership with our parents and the community at large,” she added.

“Dr. Hall and her staff have done a great job in helping students become successful in their educational journey,” said Paul Beilfuss, Superintendent of Schools. “Despite ever more challenging learning environments and space constraints, our elementary and middle school teachers and administrators are collaborating well with their counterparts at the high school, and with parents and guardians, for the benefit of our students,” Beilfuss said.

Since 2004, the overall graduation rate has increased three percentage points (86.9% to 89%), while the graduation rate for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students increased nearly 40% (50.0 to 88.9%). African-American students now have a graduation rate at the school of 89.3%. Students with free/reduced lunch (low-income) are at 86.4%; females are at 92.9%; and Hispanic students are at 85.4%. All student subgroups are now higher than the state average, and are as much as nineteen percentage points over the state average. The complete table of graduation rates are listed below (numbers in parentheses are state averages).
