01/22/2007 - Cross Country athlete to sign letter of intent to attend Judson College
DeKalb High School Director of Athletics and Activities, Dan Jones, has announced that DeKalb High School senior, Matt DeBall, will sign a letter of intent to attend Judson University in Elgin and participate in Cross Country competition. DeBall made a significant impact on the varsity season last fall, the most successful cross country season in 30 years at DeKalb High School. DeBall was the top runner in the Sterling Invite, and played a role in securing championships at the Byron Invite, East Peoria Invite, and Rockford Guilford Regional Tournament. "Even though this was Matt's first season with cross country, he has a tremendous work ethic, and jumped right in and worked hard with the other runners," said DeKalb High School varsity cross country coach, Mike Wolf.
“We are truly excited to have Matt DeBall as the first signee in Judson’s return to cross country competition, said Judson University Men's and Women's Cross Country coach, Rich Weinhandl. “Matt is part of history in the return of cross country competition to Judson University. I’m looking forward to coaching and mentoring Matt as he grows athletically and academically, Weinhandl added.”
Judson University (formerly known as Judson College), is a private university of 1200 students from 36 states and 26 countries located just west of the Fox River. Judson University is an NAIA school competing in ten sports. Judson is a member school of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (www.ccacsports.com).
The letter of intent signing will be at DeKalb High School on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. Rich Weinhandl is expected to join DeKalb High School officials at the ceremony.
