02/01/2008 - Woker Receives Scholarship to Attend National "Ag in the Classroom" Teachers Conference
Brenda Woker, teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in District 428, has been named as one of only ten recipients of a scholarship to attend the national conference for "Ag In The Classroom" Teachers for 2008. The conference will be held in Costa Mesa, California in June. Woker has been an award-winning Ag In The Classroom teacher in Illinois for several years. Last fall she was named 2008 Ag In The Classroom Teacher of the Year runnerup in the State of Illinois, and was entered in the scholarship contest as a result..
"Brenda is a tremendous resource, not only for our students, but also for our entire staff, " said Jefferson principal, Merri-Lynn Seaburg. "We are truly honored to have her as a member of our staff. She is always finding innovative methods of making agriculture and agribusiness come alive for her students in the classroom," Seaburg added.
Jefferson Elementary School is also one of three District 428 schools named to the 2007 Illinois Honor as an Academic Improvement School, along with two additional schools named as Spotlight Schools. Seven DeKalb Community Unit District 428 schools have now been named to the Illinois Honor Roll in the past two years.
