Legal Issues regarding underage usage of drugs and
alcohol |
| Laws in the State of Illinois related to the consumption
of alcohol by minors:
It is unlawful.........
-
to give, sell, or deliver alcoholic liquor to any person under the age
of 21 ($500.00 minimum fine);
-
for an individual under the age of 21 to purchase or accept a gift of alcoholic
liquor or have such alcoholic liquor in his or her possession;
-
for an individual over the age of 21 to allow an underage person to use
his or her identification for the purpose of drinking alcohol underage;
-
for a person under the age of 21 to present false identification for ordering,
purchasing, or attempting to purchase any alcoholic beverage or to have
in their possession any false or fraudulent identification;
-
for any person under the age of 21 to have any alcoholic beverage in his
or her possession on any street or highway or in any public place;
-
for a parent or guardian to permit his or her residence to be used by persons
under the age of 21 to consume alcohol;
-
to knowingly permit a gathering of two or more persons under the age of
21 where the underage individuals are in possession of, or consuming, any
alcoholic beverage and the person under the age of 21 leave the residence
in an intoxicated condition;
-
to rent a hotel or motel room for the purpose of or with the knowledge
that such room will be used for the consumption of alcoholic liquor by
persons under the age of 21;

for any person under the age of 21 to drive a motor vehicle with any amount
of alcohol in the blood stream.
These offenses carry maximum fines of up to $2,500.00 (depending
on the charge) and most carry possible jail sentences. There is also
the possibility of the loss of a driverís license for alcohol concentration
of more than 0.00 for persons under the age of 21.
