| DeKalb High School is a public, four-year co-educational high school of approximately 1,700 students. We are located in the north central part of the state in the City of DeKalb. DeKalb is the home of Northern Illinois University. DeKalb High School operates on a eight (48 min.) period day from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. All classes passed receive .5 credit per semester. Students need 22 credits to graduate. Pluses and minuses are on our transcript but do not figure into the GPA. We use GPA’s to compute class rank. Every student who receives a passing grade in US Government has passed the Constitution test as required under the Illinois School Code.
Student Body : 75% are White, 14% are Hispanic, 8% are Black, and 2% are Asian, Less than 1% are Native American and Multi Racial/Ethnic. DeKalb High School has a 91% graduation rate, with 40% going on to a four year school and 35% to a two year school.
Faculty : Over half of the 100 teachers on the DHS faculty have earned a Master’s Degree or beyond. 69% of DHS faculty have over 5 years of experience.
AP Classes : Currently DHS offers advanced placement courses in Art, Biology, Calculus, European History, U.S. Government, U.S. History, Chemistry, and Humanities English IV Gifted. We offer an Honors Physics class and an Honors Chemistry class in addition to 4 years of both Spanish and French.

KEC Classes : DeKalb, along with 5 area high schools and Kishwaukee College, offer 30 vocational classes, in addition to the ones taught at DHS. Many of these are for dual credit at Kishwaukee College.
ACT : 100% of our students take the ACT Our students consistently rank the highest in our county and conference.
Weighted Grades : the following classes are given an extra point on the GPA: All AP classes: Biology, Calculus, European History, US Government, US History, Chemistry, and Humanities English IV Gifted, Art Portfolio.

Pupil Personnel Student Services : A comprehensive program of student services is provided by DeKalb High School and DeKalb School District 428. Five guidance counselors assist the students with personal, social and academic concerns, college selections and career/vocational plans. Complementing the counselors are two social workers, a psychologist, and school nurse.
