Lesson Gallery - Fifth Grade Creative Expression
Body Language: During the fifth grade language arts unit on communication, we analyzed how body language is an important part of artist Alice Neel's communication of mood in her paintings. After identifying examples of moods and analyzing how they were communicated, students chose a mood and represented it through color and body language in a figurative sculpture.
Exploring Point of View: What Would Things Look Like if You Were 2" Tall? In creating these art works, fifth grade students learned about ways artists, like Georgia O'Keeffe, purposefully use a close up point of view. Students were challenged to represent a scene that they might see if they were two inches tall, paying careful attention to details and textures.
