Lesson Gallery - Third Grade Perception

Nature in Relief: After discussing why it was especially important for the print maker Albrecht Durer to show texture in his prints about animals, students were challenged to carefully observe and represent textures on an animal that they found to be interesting. Each student ultimately printed an edition of their image.

Radial Designs: As a class, we looked for similarities among images that used math ideas to organize the elements of art. We observed that some images looked like they were "growing" and symmetrical. These designs are called radial designs. They are balanced with a design extending from its center- just like radii on a circle! Students learned how to apply this principle in creating their own radial designs, which were finished with warm or cool colors.
